We have set up this web page to let everyone on know what it is he will be getting up to, a place for you to see some of his photos and also a link for people to donate all they can to help raise money for this great cause.
The Challenge
Marcus has got quite and challenge set ahead for him. He started on the 24th May where he left the UK for Peru and arrives in a city called Lima. Once arriving in Lima he then has another flight to Cuzco (situated at a height of 3'400m). He will then be taken by coach to the Sacred Valley which is where the massive trek will begin. He starts off slowly with a short flat walk to his first camping post at Cachicata.
He will then travel to Ollantaytambo where he will walk through Inca ruins and a typical Inca town. After Lunch he will trek to his next overnight camp at Soqma. The next day he faces a steep ascent to the waterfall and dramatic scenery of the Perol Nyoc ruins. After a short stop there is another steep trek to his camp at Corimarca.
After an early start he will then climb upwards over the long, steep, zigzagging route to Charca Huaylla Pass and then onwards to the highest point in the trek at Chanca Chuco where he will be at 4445m. The trek then continues along the decending cliff side trail to the camp at Angascocha and a cold night ahead.
He will then begin the long decent to the Elfin forest following the line of the river as it makes its way back to the Sacred Valley. After a long trek he will reach the overnight camp at Camicancha. The next day starts with a trek to the Eucalyptus forest close to the Chillca Bridge and then onto the camp Piscaycucho passing through the Arid Montane habitat and the Cactus Forrest.
He will the travel by train to the check point Kilometer 104. On arrival he will then climb the Inca trail to the ruins at Huina Huayna. After lunch it's on to Machu Picchu. After admiring the view, he then descends to the town of Aguas Calientes. The next day is an early start another chance to ascend to Machu Picchu for a second time and a guided tour of the ruins. After this he then travels back to Cuzco to spend some free time absorbing the local culture. He then travels back to the UK on the 4th June.
