With the hugely popular heritage and country trends influencing the high street for a few years now, the check shirt is standing fast in its resonance. Check material is seeing a revival making it a staple piece in the wardrobes of every man, woman and child in the country.
Since the 70’s, when check and plaid were first twinned with a pair of Doc Martins and mohawks, it’s been here, there and everywhere from catwalk to casual (forget any associations with lumberjacks and 90’s grunge). Thankfully, times have changed and we’re readily adopting check and plaid in tailoring, scarves, ties, pretty much anything that nods towards the trend.
You can team a check shirt with a cardigan, tailored jacket, leather bomber, or anything that isn’t the same pattern - there’s considerable risk of looking like a gingham tablecloth. Match up a block colour tie and some dark denim jeans and you’re halfway there to being as suave as David (need we say who we’re talking about?)
